Man is facing trial accused of obtaining laptops by trickery

A man has been sent for trial accused of tricking people into posting him high-value electronic goods without payment

Ibrahim Azeez (27) is accused of multiple counts of possession of stolen property after allegedly going to a postal depot to collect the items - two laptops, a camera and a smartphone worth around €2,000.

A book of evidence was served on him at Blanchardstown District Court.

Mr Azeez, of Willows Court, Hartstown, is charged with four counts of possession of stolen property and one of using a false instrument.

The offences are alleged to have happened at Fonthill Post Depot, Fonthill Road, Clondalkin, in 2017.

A state solicitor said the book of evidence was ready and was served on the accused.

Alibi

Judge David McHugh gave Mr Azeez the formal notice of his deadline for provid- ing the prosecution with details of any alibi he intends to rely on.

He also ordered the prosecution to furnish the defence with copies of the accused's garda interview video.

Judge McHugh sent Mr Azeez forward to the next sittings of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

It was alleged that the accused tricked people into posting high-value electronic items to his address, believing they had already received payment, but no payment was made.

A garda sergeant told the court that Mr Azeez is accused of collecting a Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone from the depot on September 2, 2017; a Nikon camera and lens on October 4; an Acer Aspire laptop on October 2 and an Apple Macbook on October 26.

He allegedly also went to the depot on October 19 and produced a counterfeit driving licence as identification to collect a package.
